Ironman branded organic coffee - what’s next?

mitch | 0 Comments

Update:

Officials of the Ironman Triathlon apologized to Kona coffee farmers and the Big Island community Wednesday for introducing a Guatemalan coffee as its official coffee.

The officials placed advertisements for Thursday editions of both Big Island daily newspapers and Honolulu’s two dailies, saying “our lapse in judgment was not malicious.”

“We truly hope that you are able to forgive us for our mistake,” the ad said.

It said Ironman coffee was removed from local retail locations and promotional activities for it would end.

Just announced - the official Ironman coffee…

From the company’s websiteBecoming an IRONMAN takes time, dedication to excellence, discipline and accepting nothing but the best from yourself. Those same characteristics go in to every bag of IRONMAN Organic Coffee. Only the best 100% certified organic, single origin beans are chosen for roasting. Our coffee roasters have spent 25 years perfecting the art of the dark roast. The result is a superbly dark, bold and satisfying coffee. We guarantee that every bag of our hand roasted coffee is packaged within hours of leaving the roaster.

Whether you are waking up for a 5 a.m. morning swim or getting yourself to work, rest assured that the Ironman coffee you are about to enjoy will deliver you to the finish line.

During Ford Ironman World Championship race week, Lava Java will be serving Ironman Organic Coffee as the featured “World Coffee”.

All of which begs the question…what do you think will be the next ‘branded’ product?

It just got even harder to enter an Ironman event…

mitch | 0 Comments

We all know how quickly Ironman slots sell out… well North American Sports just changed the entry process for their full IM races - pretty much limiting ‘new’ entrants ability to get a slot. Major bummer - the sport is in growth mode and now a move like this…

This appears to affect the following races:

  • Ford Ironman Arizona
  • Subaru Ironman Canada
  • Ford Ironman Coeur d’Alene
  • Ford Ironman Florida
  • Ford Ironman Lake Placid
  • Ford Ironman Wisconsin

The only North American race apparently NOT affected will be Ford Ironman Louisville.

Entry Process for North America Sports Events
Author: H. Manning September 27, 2007

Boulder, CO – Over the past few years, entry spots to North America Sports full Ironman Races have become highly sought after by the triathlon community. In response to this NA Sports will be instituting the following process for entry to their full Ironman Races going forward.

Athletes entered in the event for the current year will be allowed to register for the next year’s event the DAY BEFORE the current event. Entries will be accepted, on-site at the race site, from 9:00 am – 11:00 am, athletes will be required to present photo ID and their athlete wristbands at the time of entry. Athletes will only be able to register themselves.

General entry for all others will be made available, on-site at the race, from 9:00 am – 11:00 am, the morning following the race. Participants may register themselves at that time, they will not be able to register another person at any North America Sports event. ID will be required at the time of entry.

Entry spots remaining for general entry will be available via Active.com beginning at 12:00 noon, local race time. Subaru Ironman Canada has not typically had ANY spots available on-line and it is expected that this may become the case at some of the other NA Sports events as well in the future.

Interbike - Day 1

mitch | 0 Comments

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend this year (next year!) but here’s part one of a continuing series this week about what others are reporting on from the show ….

Bike Radar reports FSA is introducing a new hydration system that mounts under you aerobars - of course it’s carbon… dual reserviors and expected in market December with MSRP of about $100. Details

Bicycle reports that Javelin has a pretty cool carbon fiber bike hand designed by John Cobb, master of all things aero. The new frames (Torgiano and Lugano) are built in Italy. Apparently Cobb designed each tube separately and then fit the whole bit together into what Bicycling describes as a “cohesive and very sleek looking frame”.

If you’re interested, you’re probably gonna have to break open that piggy bank…the Lugano runs $5,800 frame and fork, and $7,200 as a full custom.

Challenged Athletes Foundation needs your help

caf-logo21.jpgThis group does a wonderful job and now they need our help. Please pass the word and do what you can…

A fire at the foundation’s main office on Saturday destroyed an estimated $600,000 worth of property, equipment and banners which had been donated for their largest annual fundraiser - the 14th annual San Diego Triathlon Challenge in La Jolla on Oct. 28.

Since it began in 1994, the foundation has raised more than $11 million that it gives in grants to physically challenged athletes worldwide. In many cases, the money is used to buy wheelchairs and prostheses.

Virginia Tinley, the foundation’s executive director, hopes insurance will cover most of the damage, but is concerned that with the event just weeks away, they may not be able to replace the donated supplies for the fundraiser in time.
